Kauai Surf Break
Silas has had an interesting week. He cut his first tooth on Saturday morning. It wasn't there Friday night, but sure enough a little white bud was there Saturday morning. That would explain the frequent wake ups all throughout the night for the last few weeks.
And today we did banana's and Avocados. He did so well. He totally downed the whole half of an avocado (well except for the paste on the bib and the bits on the tray that he couldn't grab) and loved holding the banana. It was like a banana Popsicle. He nursed before and after also...so I expect him to take a good long afternoon nap. Especially since he missed his morning nap because of errin's that we had to do. Oh and he no longer gags either. The first few days of squash he gagged a lot and it freaked me out. Never really choked though. Now though he does great. He will just kind of spit something out of he doesn't want it to go down. I will know for next time to expect a few days of a learning cure. I think squash is a good first though...it's really safe and easy to get down.

Holding the avocado and then sucking on it, mashing it with his gums and then swallowing. I halved the avocado then halved it again. Giving him two big pieces that he could grab with his hands. Just slightly bigger then his fist. He loved it.

Holding the banana and so happy that he gets to eat it all by himself.

Of course he got full and after a while he started banging it on his tray and yelling really loud. Then chucked it on the floor.

Silas is 6 Months!!!!

So some of you have been hearing me talk about BLW (Baby Led Weaning) or (Baby Led Feeding) The "weaning" part means that they are just starting to nurse less, I like to call it BLF because it's more about them learning how to feed themselves then it is about them weaning. ...yeah yeah yeah...I know...Something new that I'm super excited about. But I have been finding so many interesting things about it. I'm suprised at how many moms are "doing it". Well except for all the old school moms that are like "yeah so...that's what I did when my kids were little". It makes total sense and takes all the hard work out of feeding a baby. Plus it really is just the lazy mom's method that has gone overlooked. Well except for the cleaning that is. Silas is having so much fun with squash and pears this week, it has been hilarious. I can't wait for avocados and banana's next week. Here is a blog that has put together tons of helpful links to answer any questions you could have:
http://geriatricmama.wordpress.com/2008/09/25/more-great-baby-led-weaningself-feeding-info/

But here are few things that i'm excited about.

1. I only have to feed Silas what we are already eating...no baby food making or buying.
2. He only eats what he can grab, food is usually no smaller then his fist.
3. Baby's are born with an amazing gag relex so they are able to control very well what goes
down the tube and what doesn't.
4. Breastfeeding is still an important part of his diet.

Before!

After!

Last week we went to the Oregon coast with Jeff's family. We had so much fun. Definitely something we want to do in the future. We stayed in a house right on the beach and got to play outside in the sand in the freezing cold. The weekend was really nice though, lots of sunshine. Most everyone got to fly a kite. And Eli got to play in the most dirt he has ever played in. Jeff was even super brave and got to out in the water to skim board.
Silas is officialy starting sitting up on October 7th. He is army crawling everywhere and just on the verge of full on crawling on all fours. I give it one more week at the most. Oh and today is his 6 month birthday. Happy Half Birthday Si Pi! Love you.
Eli is have dinner protest every night...unless it's a waffel, chicken, bread or O's. Everything else is a no go. Which means dinner now become breakfast. I HATED the idea but Jeff is right and we can't have him complaining and fussy over food. We'll see how the week goes. He has his second to last upper molar coming in so that might be some of it.
