The Great Flood of 2007

by - 4:48 PM

Today we almost floated away. All the water from the road was flowing right into our yard and draining into our basement, three different streams of water. 3 Feet later Jeff is bailing water with a 5 gallon bucket. Luckily we had some friends come and help us redirect the water and get the flooding under control. So here's the videos and photos (the 2nd video is at the very end)

The back of the house and the flooding that we took on in the crawl space.
The hose and the grayish thing floating in the water is the second pump that we had going to get the water out. But with all the water coming in from the road we weren't even making a dent.

The driveway had two major streams that drained to the back of the house. The other stream was by the fence on the other side of the yard. The stream that's in the video.
Water almost at the level of the house.
Third stream.
YEH....the reinforcements are here. Cerveny and Swan came and dug trenches, put sand bags in place, and redirected the streams out of our yard.

Once Eli realized that things were happening outside he kinda lost his noodles. So we put on the gear and headed out to take some photos (above). He just wanted to see Dada and give him a hug. It was really sweet. We were soaked though when we got back inside. I can't even imagine what it must have been like for the guys.

In the end the water was redirected enough to let the pumps do their job and the water was gone in less then 30 minutes. Jeff was outside for around 5 hours though the whole ordeal and then it took a while to get everything back to normal. Lots to clean up! What a great guy!!!! He was rewarded with 2 grill cheese sandwiches and creamy tomato soup in a cup...his favorite.

You can kinda see the metal grate and the floor. This was good news for us all!

We had a "river" inside the house. So I called it. Seems more like a brook now, looking at your class III.
