Sparkle Pumpkins

Obviously these are not the sparkle pumpkins (well they kinda are), but we'll get to those...

Just for a moment I wanted to talk about the man I love.  Jeff is a good dad. Bottom line, he loves us, protects us and keeps us warm and our tummies full.  He reads to the kids. And when I look over at the towering stack of Thomas and Richard Scary, I'm thankful that he comes home every night to love us.

 He's our Hero...

Now...where were we.  Oh yeah...sparkle stuff.  Ok well at my attempt to be an easy going mom that doesn't cry over spilled milk I bought glitter.  And things are so much more fun with glitter.  Because fun moms buy glitter, and put sparkles on stuff, I thought that would be a good thing to try. And deep down inside I know I can be that mom.  The kinda mom that doesn't freak out over dirt and poop and germs and sparkles.  Maybe I have high expectations for myself, but it's my goal.  And let me tell you, I'm SOOOO not there yet.  Far far from it. So with lots of newspaper and the vacuum at hand I attempted to do sparkles...

Gluing the pumpkins

Oh and right after it was over he rubbed his gluey hands in the glitter, took one look at them and then took the glitter hands and just started to wipe them everywhere...
My chest got tight and I tried to put on a good smile.

But...mom..."I have a glitter pumpkin" What a happy world.

So I took them outside and wiped them off and vacuumed it all up.  But then when I wasn't looking Eli did something completely normal.  He glittered his hands and....well. I heard myself in my head and then it came out "Eli if you can't obey mom then we won't get to do fun things" sigh....

We'll try again tomorrow, I said to myself...I'll do better.  It can only go up from here...right?

Maybe tomorrow I won't get the vacuum out.  I'll just wing it and see what happens.  I mean it's only glitter.  It can't eat me or turn me green forever.  They think I'm teaching them stuff.  But really it's the other way around.  Thank goodness their so good at giving second chances.

So then we did some work outside.  Lots of construction going on with the new sand in the box.  Liquid gold!

This is the right way to drive.

The ladies are do fine.  Lady Ga Ga is up in trees often and I can't see to figure out how she gets that high.  Last night I was in a ladder 8 feet high rescuing a chicken.  No joke...

Ok so real quick recap of our day.  Here's the mess that I left when we went outside.  It just sat there.

But instead of picking it all up I started making Eli his robot pajama pants.

And here's the center of all confusion.  The Island is like a black hole.  Sucking things in as they fly by.  Until in all the chaos there's no room left and I HAVE to clean it.  So why is it that I freak out over glitter but can literally go from mess to mess and really get nothing done.
I really don't have a clue....

But I do know that in the end we have sparkle pumpkins so we're gonna be just fine!

  2. I honestly laughed out loud several times during this post. I think this is my favorite blog post of all time!! And it really has nothing to do with the glitter. It's more of your writing & how you responded to the glitter- love it!! I will need to learn from you, because I too will freak out over the mess....

    Love you!

  3. See! You already ARE this kind of mom because you bought glitter. And here I pat myself on the back when I get out the playdough...once a quarter. :) Love you Kim! Also, love the pumpkins. Maybe someday I'll let glitter in my house...but so far, the only glittery spot we have is where Israel's artwork he did at your house is hung. :)
