Dirt Cookie

I need a little...Sunshine.
With all this rain I'm feeling very stranded on my Island and though I might float away at any moment, I'm really trying hard to keep things in perspective.   It's dark. It's rainy. It's muddy. It's December in Washington.  And this is normal but It's been 15 years and I'm still kinda taken back by the amount of water that can fall on this side of the state.  Ever feel like you just dropped your cookie in the dirt and you pick it up and think it will never taste the same.  It's ruined forever.  You try to brush off the dirt but it just pushes the little bits in deeper and you...sigh.

So I thought that if i put up these signs I could say to myself throughout the day, "Self...people are climbing mountains...running in the heat...be inspired to do something great today." "Run..."

And really he's enough...

Have you ever filled a cupcake pan with paint and given your kids q-tips...

It was all Eli's idea, it was in an activity book that he was reading.  He brought it out and said "mom can we do this."

Sure!  Why not...
And it's still on the counter, I'll just clean it up tomorrow.  It will be ok...

We're venturing out of the norm...in more then one areas. Lack of sunshine does weird things to people.

For later....

Homemade veggie stock...but for now you will be in the freezer.  It does seem these last few days I've started the day out in the negative from the day before.  But I think that's kinda normal.  I give up around 8:30 and just want to stick my head in a jar of jelly.  Fast movements start to make me twitch.  I no longer see the pile of dishes or the toys...it's like they smear into one.  There could be leprechaun dolphins in the room and I would be like, "Hey Jeff wanna watch biggest looser?"

And I told you we do weird things with lack of sun...an attempt to manage the fro. Made myself laugh though and that was good.

So I've been thinkin'...be it that my cookie fell in the dirt this week, I'm not that far from normal.  I mean it's just dirt!

Somewhere there's a big bright butterfly going bonkers in a Lilly field...hip hip...

I just have to look a little deeper.  Brush of the dirt.  Try to find the chocolate pieces.

So I'm gonna try to do some out of the norm cooking and out of the norm playing and I'm running.  I'll talk to my pictures in my kitchen and have a conversation about big things that are happening and make the most of my rainy day and brushed off cookie.

oh yeah...

  1. I have a question about the veggie stock - what do you do with all the extra dirt on the leftovers? I mean sometimes it's hard to get it all out of carrot tops, etc.

  3. We have had 30 inches of snow this winter; Richard is out shoveling, again..Can I come paint? Richard was saying how much Silas looks like Eli in some of these photos. I love your "catch the moment" pics and, of course, the little subjects.
